For first-time parents, the anticipation leading up to the birth of their first baby is astronomical. With so many questions running through their minds, I find that taking couples out for maternity photo sessions can really calm the nerves and bring on the excitement! That is my #1 goal. I want to take your stress away, make you feel comfortable, and help you capture an incredible time in your life. This is exactly what we did for Chloe and Andrew’s maternity session, cozied up in the central New York area!
Chloe and Andrew’s Story
Chloe and Andrew had been planning a destination wedding for quite a while, then they found out they were pregnant with their first baby 5 months before the big day! While some couples may feel stressed or extra anxious about planning a wedding while also preparing for a baby, Chloe and Andrew were absolute champs. I’ll never forget hearing these two talk about the new way they viewed their wedding. Their first child gets to be a part of their wedding experience, and they were going to be getting married as a family. I was immediately in awe of their love! This viewpoint was SO admirable and I knew they were going to shower their little one with so much love!
After spending some time getting to know each other I couldn’t get enough of working with Chloe and Andrew. They are the sweetest couple and I was over the moon excited to help them capture this time in their life! They came to me with one simple goal, to “document this moment before it was over.” Done! As we chatted about what I could do for them I painted a picture of how their experience could unfold; what they may feel during these milestones, and how we would capture each session from maternity all the way through their baby’s first day to the first year, and reminding them of how fast this time was going to fly. Capturing these emotions was so important to Chloe and Andrew and I don’t think they could have said yes any faster! We got to work right away.
One of my favorite parts of photographing couples’ maternity shoots is helping them come up with their vision and assisting them in the execution of it. I began planning out outfit ideas that were not only timeless but comfortable (because who doesn’t love getting a ‘lil cozy?). Chloe and Andrew threw in their input to make sure everything felt like them. Ultimately, I wanted to make them feel like a version of themselves that was floating on cloud 9. I guided their location scouting and selection to make sure we would be capturing their vision in the perfect space.
Choosing The Perfect Location
When clients book with me I want their experience to be stress-free. This is a time in your life when you should be soaking in every single second! In order to make sure my clients, like Chloe and Andrew, receive everything they’re hoping for I send them an entire gallery of film photographs that document the monumental experience. For first-time parents, the time leading up to the birth of their first baby and the days after are a time they never want to forget. With hiring a maternity photographer, I know they’ll never have to!
To capture the essence of their pregnancy we shot at a private beach on Lake Ontario. I encouraged Chloe and Andrew to cozy up together and enjoy this private time, and act like I wasn’t even there! The setting allowed them to feel comfortable and natural posing, no awkwardness here! That is one thing I love about private settings such as this beach, couples and clients tend to be more comfortable acting like themselves and having their photos taken. I was loving sneaking up behind their walks capturing these two taking it all in. I could tell they were just dreaming of their little boy who was going to join them soon! Alllll the feels.
Chloe and Andrew, you are going to be incredible parents and I know your little boy is going to be the luckiest! Keep spreading your love and kindness, it is so admired and I adored our time together.
